NSF Certified for Sport CBD Products List 2026 (Verified)

NSF Certified for Sport: The Only USADA-Recognized CBD Mark

NSF Certified for Sport® is recognized by USADA, MLB, NHL, and the CFL; recommended by the NFL, NBA, PGA, and LPGA. NSF began certifying CBD/hemp products in October 2021 under the NSF/ANSI 173 supplement standard plus the strict NSF 306 THC requirement. The certification tests for 290+ banned substances and contaminants on a batch level. The certified-CBD roster remains small but growing — athletes have a verified set of options where labels alone are unreliable (21% of online CBD products contain undisclosed THC; 69% are mislabeled).

USADA's Standing Position: "Significantly Reduces, But Does Not Eliminate"

USADA's position is explicit and worth memorizing: "Using an NSF Certified for Sport® product significantly reduces, but does not necessarily eliminate, the chance of testing positive." Strict liability under the WADA Code means athletes remain responsible for everything in their bodies regardless of certification — the NSF mark is the strongest available risk-reduction tool, not an absolute guarantee. See TUEs & Strict Liability for the legal frame.

How to Verify a Lot Number Against the NSF Database

  1. Locate the lot or batch number printed on the bottle, container, or shipping carton. NSF certifications are batch-level; the SKU alone is insufficient.
  2. Visit nsfsport.com or open the NSF mobile app. Search by brand, product name, or SKU.
  3. Confirm the certification status is current for the specific lot. Certifications can lapse between batches.
  4. Cross-check the product name and SKU match what you have in hand. USADA explicitly recommends verifying logos against the database due to documented logo-misuse cases — an NSF Certified for Sport mark on a label, on its own, is not sufficient.
  5. Save a screenshot of the verification with timestamp. If you face a contamination dispute later, the contemporaneous verification record is more useful than after-the-fact recall.

Practical Guidance for Tested Athletes

  • Default to NSF Certified for Sport. Where a verified NSF Certified for Sport product exists for the use case (sleep, anxiety, topical recovery), choose it over an uncertified option. Cost premium is small relative to the AAF risk on the back end.
  • Informed Sport is also recognized. See Informed Sport & BSCG for batch-tested SKUs from brands like Mendi and Beam where NSF coverage is unavailable.
  • Avoid hemp-derived delta-8/delta-10/THCA products entirely if you are tested. All are banned by WADA Section S8 as "synthetic cannabinoids that mimic the effects of THC," and THCA decarboxylates to delta-9 THC on combustion.
  • Plan around the federal hemp cliff. See Federal Hemp Cliff Nov 12, 2026 — NSF Certified for Sport CBD products appear best-positioned to remain compliant under the ≤0.4 mg total-THC-per-container cap.
